NASA Mars Orbiter Speeds Past Data Milestone
Pasadena CA (JPL) Mar 05, 2010
NASA's newest Mars orbiter, completing its fourth year at the Red Planet next week, has just passed a data-volume milestone unimaginable a generation ago and still difficult to fathom: 100 terabits. That 100 trillion bits of information is more data than in 35 hours of uncompressed high-definition video. The world's next resource conflict
Berlin (UPI) Feb 22, 2009
The next resource conflict could be about minerals and rare earth elements needed to fuel the green economy, as China, which supplies most of the minerals, is considering limiting exports. There is great hope for a green boom to transform the CO2-heavy world economy into one that is less dependent on fossil fuels and more sustainable. Experts envision solar panels and wind turbines to p ... more

Warlord's brother killed in US attack: Pakistani officials
Miranshah, Pakistan (AFP) Feb 19, 2010
A brother of Al-Qaeda-linked warlord Sirajuddin Haqqani, whose network is fighting in Afghanistan, has been killed in a US missile attack in Pakistan, officials said Friday. The death of Mohammed Haqqani, who was involved in the Afghan network, in an attack thought to have been targeting his brother will be a symbolic blow to the Haqqani leadership and a further boost for the controversial US drone war. He died when a US plane fired two missiles into a compound and vehicle on Thursday in the Dan ... read more
