New Lab-Funded Magnetron May Help Defeat Enemy Electronics
Arlington AFB VA (AFNS) Feb 11, 2010
Air Force Research Laboratory-funded researchers at the University of Michigan invented a new type of magnetron that may be used in defeating enemy electronics. A vital component of military radar systems since World War II, a magnetron is a kind of vacuum tube that serves as the frequency source in microwave ovens, radar systems, and other high-power microwave circuits. The newly devised technology--which is more compact, exhibits faster start-up, and demonstrates higher peak and average power th ... read more

Washington (AFP) Feb 1, 2010
The US military failed to shoot down a ballistic missile in a test resembling an Iranian or North Korean strike after a radar malfunctioned, a spokesman said on Monday. The test was carried out on Sunday at a US Army site at the Kwajalein Atoll in the Marshall Islands but the target missile was not intercepted as planned, said Rick Lehner, spokesman for the Missile Defense Agency. US deployment raises tensions in strategic Gulf: analysts
Dubai (AFP) Feb 2, 2010
US deployment of anti-missile defences off Iran's coast and in a number of its Gulf Arab neighbours is certain to fuel tensions in a strategic region that supplies a third of the world's oil, analysts say. Despite rift, Obama keeps Israel armed
Tel Aviv, Israel (UPI) Jan 29, 2009
Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu is brazenly defying U.S. President Barack Obama's demand that all West Bank settlement activity cease, but Washington appears to be prepared to keep on beefing up the technological edge of the Jewish state's military. "Israeli officials have been singing the praises of President Obama for his willingness to address their defense concerns and for actions taken by his administration to bolster Israel's qualitative edge - an edge eroded, according to Israel, duri ... read more
